Over the past 22 years, the GRUB youth program has transitioned from brand new to a successful program that offers second chances to many. The GRUB program nurtures many youths from different backgrounds by teaching them how to grow food from the seed to the table — but also planting seeds for success in work and in life.

“The GRUB program is a very crucial part of our community. We aim to educate and empower our youth in order to not only grow at the farm but in themselves,” says Director of the Farm, Orchard, and GRUB program Isaac Rodriguez.

With the many success stories coming from our GRUB program, and the impact it has made on community youth right in our backyard, it also brings a sense of belonging to some. “The GRUB farm is a place where you can depend on others. If you don’t have someone to speak to — Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa — come here, we will listen,” says Chris, one of our GRUB students. GRUB teaches life skills, with local community leaders visiting and demonstrating how to write a resume, balance a checkbook, and go through an interview, among many other things.

Our students learn that there are many ways to further education and enter the workforce. The main goal is to enrich their lives through many platforms.“Every time I come to GRUB, it is like my second family, and I feel love and like I belong,” says Chris.
